(V)ision by Jean, (I)nitiated by Pat, (P)articipation by all who are interested:

Bring your lunch and settle in to watch a video about glass artist, Dale Chihuly, who is considered the most inventive glass sculptor in the history of the medium. His work and installations are famous for their size, splendor and variety.  Did you know that one of our members has worked with him?  And that "a piece of Chihuly" can be found within an hour's drive . . . ?  Pat Johnson is leading this presentation and discussion.  Bring your experiences to share.

Please spread the word on this and encourage others to enhance their art education.  We hope to see you there!

Looking ahead, the second Eat with Art (name by Glenda) will be Wednesday, April 14, same time and place.  Glenda Banta, who lived and worked in Korea for over 4 years, will present KOREAN ART.

PHOTOGEOgraphy:  Someplace Like Home

March 26 - April 22, 2010

Photographers throughout the Upper Peninsula over the age of 18 are invited to submit photos to PHOTO(GEO)graphy: Someplace Like Home, a juried show that will be featured at the Bonifas Arts Center from March 26 through April 22.

"This is our first juried photography show," said Pasqua Warstler, Gallery and Education Director for the Center.

"We're excited about showing these photos along with those of Phyllis Banis, Carole Elchert, and Andrea VanVorhis in Converging In-Sight: Photographs of pilgrimages from four continents, and we're delighted that these three photographers have agreed to be our jurors."

Applications are available at the Center and online under "Artist Opportunities". Photographers must insure that their submissions reach the Arts Center by 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 6. No late applications can be accepted and this is not a postmark deadline.

Prizes will be awarded, including cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and Viewers' Choice. A special award from Genesis Graphics will give the winning artist free file consultation and limited edition prints, and eight publications will feature an artist from their own area in an article.

Publications participating are the Houghton Daily Mining Gazette, Escanaba's Daily Press, the Iron Mountain Daily News, the Manistique Pioneer Tribune, the Marquette Mining Journal, the Marquette Monthly, the Munising News, and Superior Times. All prizes except Viewers' Choice will be awarded at the Gallery Reception on Friday, March 26, from 7 to 9 p.m.
