Calendar of Area Arts & Culture Events
March 1
MAAC Member Artists will remove their Winter work(s) and hang the
Spring pictures on Monday at 12 noon at the Menominee City Hall. In
December, 23 artists brought items for the exhibit and we hope more
of our member artists will participate this time. If you have
questions see the ...Requirements notice sent in November or
contact Sandy Kuber at 863-5219.

MAAC member Laurie Ceesay is having an Art Quilt Exhibit at
Spies Public Library. She has won awards in national fabric
art competitions. If you have never seen Laurie's artistry
you will be surprised and amazed at what she does. Check
out her website,
www.laurieceesay.com, to whet your appetite, but nothing
compares to seeing her "paintings" up close and personal
There will be an artist's reception on Thursday, March 4th,
from 4-6pm.

Theatre On The Bay presents "Lobby Hero"
Tickets are $11 for general admission, $7 for
UW-Marinette students. Purchase tickets at
Angeli Foods or the UW-Marinette theatre box

MAAC's Eat with Art Series MARCH 10, 11:30am at Spies Public Library with CHIHULY
(V)ision by Jean, (I)nitiated by Pat, (P)articipation by all
who are interested:
Bring your lunch and settle in to watch a video about glass
artist, Dale Chihuly, who is considered the most inventive
glass sculptor in the history of the medium. His work
and installations are famous for their size, splendor and
variety. Did you know that one of our members has worked
with him? And that "a piece of Chihuly" can be found within
an hour's drive . . . ? Pat Johnson is leading this
presentation and discussion. Bring your experiences to
share.
Please spread the word on this and encourage others
to enhance their art education. We hope to see you there!
Looking ahead, the second Eat with Art (name by Glenda) will
be Wednesday, April 14, same time and place. Glenda Banta,
who lived and worked in Korea for over 4 years, will present
KOREAN ART.
PHOTOGEOgraphy: Someplace Like Home March 26 - April 22, 2010 Photographers throughout the Upper Peninsula over the age of 18 are invited to submit photos to PHOTO(GEO)graphy: Someplace Like Home, a juried show that will be featured at the Bonifas Arts Center from March 26 through April 22."This is our f irst juried photography show," said Pasqua Warstler, Gallery and Education Director for the Center."We're excited about showing these photos along with those of Phyllis Ban is, Carole Elchert, and Andrea VanVorhis in Converging In-Sight: Photographs of pilgrimages from four continents, and we're delighted that these three photographers have agreed to be our jurors."App lications are available at the Center and online under "Artist Opportunities". Photographers must insure that their submissions reach the Arts Center by 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 6. No late applications can be accepted and this is not a postmark deadline.Prizes wi ll be awarded, including cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and Viewers' Choice. A special award from Genesis Graphics will give the winning artist free file consultation and limited edition prints, and eight publications will feature an artist from their own area in an article.Pub lications participating are the Houghton Daily Mining Gazette, Escanaba's Daily Press, the Iron Mountain Daily News, the Manistique Pioneer Tribune, the Marquette Mining Journal, the Marquette Monthly, the Munising News, and Superior Times. All prizes except Viewers' Choice will be awarded at the Gallery Reception on Friday, March 26, from 7 to 9 p.m.Entry fee is $12 for Center members and $15 for the general public. "Nine Lives" - an exhibit at Spies Public Library of mixed media
paintings by MAAC member Glenda Banta. Glenda's work is housed
in private and public collections around the world. She is a
long term supporter of the Humane Society and uses her work and
profits from sales to promote animal welfare. Artist reception

MAAC Eat with Art educational series: Between
Two Giants: Art in Korea will be presented in
power point format by artist Glenda Banta, who lived
and worked in South Korea for more than 4 years.
Glenda will discuss traditional and contemporary
art. After the presentation, she will be open to
any questions about art, culture, and life in
general as an expat in South Korea.
