SPECIAL COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

FEBRUARY 6, 2006

 

 

 

 

A special meeting of the Menominee City Council, City of Menominee, County of Menominee, State of Michigan, was held Monday, February 6, 2006 at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Complex Council Chambers.

 

The Honorable George W. Krah called the meeting to order and led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

 

PRESENT:  Council Members Fernstrum, Hudon, Jasper, Mick, Organ, Pintarelli, Schloegel and Sorensen;

                   Mayor Krah

ABSENT:    None

 

PRESENT:  9                ABSENT:  0

 

 

Mayor Krah opened the special meeting that he called for the purpose of considering the following agenda:

 

1)         Pledge of allegiance to the flag.

2)                  Public comment on agenda items only.

3)                  The Committee of the Whole on negotiating a contract with the Michigan Municipal League to serve as the consultant in the city manager hiring process. 

4)                  The Committee on the Whole on setting the compensation for the interim city manager.

5)                  Motion on the proposed contract with the Michigan Municipal League to serve as the consultant in the city manager hiring process. 

6)                  Appointment of an interim city manager.

7) Public comment.

8) Adjourn.

 

 

PUBLIC COMMENT:

 

Mayor Krah opened the public comment session that was called for the purpose of hearing citizen comments on agenda items only.

 

Walter Multerer, 1012-38th Avenue, commented on the City Council’s selection of an interim city manager. 

 

A motion was made by Council Member Jasper and seconded by Council Member Mick to close the public comment session.  This motion was carried unanimously.

COMMITTEE REPORT:

 

The Committee of the Whole of the City Council reported that they had reviewed the process for hiring a new city manager and they recommended authorizing the city manager and city attorney to negotiate a contract with the Michigan Municipal League to serve as the consultant in the process.

 

S/COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

 

A motion was made by Council Member Hudon and seconded by Council Member Sorensen to receive the foregoing report and place it on file.  This motion was carried unanimously.

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORT:

 

The Committee of the Whole of the City Council reported that they had reviewed the compensation for an interim city manager and they recommended setting the compensation for the interim city manager at $1,000 per month in addition to their current salary.

 

S/COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

 

A motion was made by Council Member Jasper and seconded by Council Member Mick to adopt the foregoing report.  This motion was carried unanimously.

 

 

A motion was made by Council Member Mick and seconded by Council Member Hudon to approve the proposed contract with the Michigan Municipal League to serve as the consultant in the city manager hiring process.  This motion was carried unanimously.

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORT:

 

The Committee of the Whole of the City Council reported that they had held interviews for an interim city manager and they recommended appointing George Cowell to the position effective February 24, 2006.

 

S/COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

 

A motion was made by Council Member Fernstrum and seconded by Council Member Jasper to adopt the foregoing report.

 

AYES:              Hudon, Jasper, Krah, Mick, Organ, Pintarelli, Schloegel, Sorensen, and Fernstrum

NAYS:             None

PUBLIC COMMENT:

 

George Cowell thanked the council for its support and said he was looking forward to working with all of them.

 

Jill Schwanz, as a department head, congratulated Mr. Cowell and thanked council for the process and said she was willing to help all she could.

 

A motion was made by Council Member Mick and seconded by Council Member Sorensen to close the public comment session.  This motion was carried unanimously.

 

 

ADJOURN:

 

A motion was made by Council Member Jasper and seconded by Council Member Mick to adjourn the meeting.  This motion was carried unanimously.
